Should there be safe spaces and/or trigger warnings? I say no because one its just not practical if you are put in a box and subject to only good things in a safe space. Then your not going to know how to react to the offensive things that people are bound to say to you in the future. At the end of the day, the world is a really screwed up place and people are mean and really don't care. Now I have had friends that have been put in a metaphorical box their whole lives and when they hit high school and then go off to college they don't know what to do with them selfs and try various thing most of them detrimental to their health. This is because they have never been exposed to the bad things in life. So a when they are encountered with these things they have no idea exactly how harmful these substance or things are. Also when you are put in a box and told that everything is good and that if people offend you it's a bad thing. Then you're never going to realize that not all people are like those people in the safe spaces and that people will take advantage of you and use. People can't be taught that if another person offends you that it's bad ya it sucks don't get me wrong but its part of life. If you let it control you, you are only giving power to the person that offended you. In a safe space, you wouldn't be able to talk about your beliefs if they "offended" other people. Ok, I'm a Christian ok so that offends you because you are an atheist before you judge me asks me why I believe what I believe. Sit down with me and have a civil conversation ask the hard questions and talk about the sensitive subjects if we did this we might be able to find something that we both believe in and form a friendship out of it. You can't have people that think that if someone's beliefs or ideas offend them then that person is wrong people belvie in different things its just part of life. Know the main argument for having safe spaces is haveing a place where students can sit and be happy and not be judged. Ok so that all good until they step out into the world and get judged. Instead of creating a place that is judged free and encloses people. Create a space that raises awareness of the problems that we have in our world concerning prejudice, racism and other world issues. So that that we can raise a generation that is willing to ask the hard questions and then go out and try to find an answer.
